The nominees of the annual Ghana Entertainment Awards-USA (GEA-USA) have been announced virtually across their social media platforms with Ghana’s most celebrated female journalist and event host/MC, Doreen Avio securing a nod each in two categories.

The media mogul nabbed two nominations for her astute and illustrious role in the Ghanaian entertainment industry, earning recognition in both “Best Radio Personality” and “Best Hypeman/MC” categories. She is up against Bernard Avle, Andy Dosty, Lexis Bill, Jay Foley, Kojo Manuel, Dr. Pounds, Nana Romeo, Giovani Caleb, and more.
Mrs. Avio has won several awards including the Female on Air Personality at the Moreklue All Youth African Awards (MAYA), best achiever in media (radio) Feminine Ghana Achievement Awards, Best TV Presenter at an event held in London in the United Kingdom, Best TV Presenter Nollywood Entertainment and Leadership Awards (NELAS).
She is currently the host of Matter Dey and co-host of Hitz FM’s late afternoon show ‘Cruise Control’ and Let’s Talk Entertainment on Joy news. She has hosted big events in the capital including the MTN music festival, Heroes Concert, Women Connect Conference, Ghana Party in the Park festival in the UK and a host of others. In March, she became the first Ghanaian journalists to host a show at the O2 Arena.
In 2021, Doreen Avio earned a partnership from the Embassy of Switzerland, Ghana to help support female disc jockeys in Ghana after a survey by the DJ’s Union of Ghana (DJUGA) indicated that women made up fewer than 6% of DJs in the country’s creative ecosystem. “Female DJ of the Year” at the 2021 Ghana DJ Awards, DJ MJ is the first beneficiary of Doreen’s timely benevolence.
